Election Commission estimates 55–60% voter turnout in HoR polls

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission Nepal has estimated that voter turnout in the House of Representatives election held today ranged between 55 and 60 percent.

According to the Commission’s Information Officer Suman Ghimire, voting continued across the country until 5 pm, with eligible voters present at polling centers and those waiting in line able to cast their ballots.

Based on preliminary data received so far, Ghimire said turnout is estimated at 55–60 percent nationwide. He added that final figures may take some time to confirm, as detailed reports from various districts are still being compiled.

Earlier, as of 3 pm, data suggested around 40–45 percent voter turnout. Considering this rate and subsequent updates, the Commission projects that overall participation would fall within the 55–60 percent range.

Ghimire also confirmed that the election was conducted peacefully and that the final results will be announced in about an hour.

A total of 18,936,89 voters were registered nationwide, and voting began at 7 am in a calm and orderly manner.

For comparison, the 2079 House of Representatives election recorded 61 percent voter turnout, while the 2074 election saw 67.63 percent participation. The 2079 local elections had a turnout of 66.86 percent. Observers note that, compared to previous elections, this year’s voter enthusiasm appears slightly lower.
