Voting begins in Jhapa; over 713,000 voters expected to cast ballots



JHAPA: Voting has begun in Jhapa district with enthusiasm, with more than 713,000 voters expected to participate in the elections.

Assistant Election Officer at the Office of the Chief Election Officer, Dilli Prasad Prasain, said polling started on schedule this morning.

A total of 90 candidates are contesting from five constituencies in the district. Altogether 713,537 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in Jhapa.

Of the total voters, 358,346 are men, 355,083 are women and eight belong to the other category.

According to the District Election Office, the number of voters has increased by 50,226 and 49 polling stations compared to the House of Representatives elections held in 2079 BS.

There are 815 polling stations set up at 285 polling centres across the district. A total of 4,936 personnel, including 815 polling officers, have been mobilised to conduct the elections.
