Traffic Police impound nine buses for illegal parking in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has impounded nine night buses for causing disruptions by parking haphazardly on city roads.

The action was taken during a special inspection campaign conducted across various locations in the valley, Valley Traffic Police spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police NareshRaj Subedi said on Thursday.

“Among the buses taken into control, some were found to have expired route permits for up to two years. We will coordinate with the Department of Transport Management to take further action,” Subedi added.

The nine buses are currently held at the Valley Traffic Police Office on Ramshahpath. According to the traffic police, the buses had been creating unnecessary congestion on the roads, inconveniencing both passengers and other vehicles.

Night buses operating on long-distance routes were found to be parked randomly, not following the designated destinations mentioned in their route permits, Valley Traffic Police Chief and Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Navaraj Adhikari said.

“Illegal and disorderly parking was seriously affecting road traffic. The buses will face action under Sections 75 and 160 of the Transport Management Act, 1992,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the traffic police had also impounded 15 other long-distance night buses for similar violations.
