KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said a chair was kept vacant for former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba at the General Convention, but he did not attend.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention, Thapa also questioned how many times party leaders should go to bring Deuba to the event and how they should approach him.
“We kept a chair vacant for former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. But he did not come. How many times should we go, and how should we go to bring him?” Thapa said.
He said some Nepali Congress leaders had left the party and argued that the party now needed to clearly address whether they had left the Congress or whether the Congress had left them.
“Some colleagues have left. We also need to say whether the Congress left them. We have to answer this now,” Thapa said.
Thapa indicated that the Nepali Congress should move forward with the new leadership while clearly reviewing issues from the past. He said the party should make efforts to include everyone within its ranks and develop a clear position regarding leaders who have left the party.
