Squatters housed in temporary shelters in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR: Squatters displaced from settlements in the Kathmandu Valley have been relocated to two temporary shelters in Bhaktapur, where authorities have arranged immediate accommodation, food, and basic services.

Temporary housing has been set up at the Nepal Electricity Authority Training Center in Kharipati, Changunarayan Municipality, and the Agricultural Development Training Center in Madhyapur Thimi, according to Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal.

Around 140 individuals have been accommodated in Kharipati, with families assigned separate rooms within hostel facilities that can host up to 250 people. An additional 39 individuals have been placed in the Madhyapur Thimi center.

The government transported the displaced individuals from areas such as the Teku settlement, ensuring urgent relief for those in need. A team from the Prime Minister’s Office visited the sites on Sunday to assess conditions.

Health support has also been mobilized, with Bagmati Province Health Minister Kiran Thapa Magar and Health Secretary Dr. Sumitra Gautam directing immediate medical assistance.

According to District Public Health Office Chief Anjana Khadka, medical teams from Bhaktapur Hospital have already conducted general health check-ups, with further services—including health camps, medicine distribution, and psychological counselling—scheduled to continue.
