National Security Council says full preparations in place for election security



KATHMANDU: The National Security Council Nepal has concluded that all preparations for election security have been completed and reaffirmed its commitment to ensure a free and fair vote.

A meeting of the council held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday reviewed security arrangements for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Thursday.

The 42nd meeting of the council was chaired by Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

According to officials, the council concluded that necessary preparations for the election have been completed and discussed measures to ensure the vote is conducted in a free, fair, peaceful and error-free manner.

The meeting also discussed possible challenges to national security and assessed the impact of recent developments at the national, regional and international levels, along with strategies to address them.

Participants also agreed to mobilize security agencies more effectively and in coordination to maintain law and order across the country during the election.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials including the finance minister, home minister, foreign minister, minister for labour, employment and social security as an invited member, the chief secretary, and the chief of the Nepal Army.
