Prachanda warns of possible rigging in two-phase election, calls for polls in single phase on March 5

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, has expressed concern that holding the House of Representatives election in two phases could lead to irregularities, and has urged the government to conduct the polls in a single phase on March 5.

Addressing a program in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the former prime minister said the election should not be split into two phases. “The election should be held in one phase, not two. An environment for a free and fair election must be ensured,” he said, adding that the country is facing an extraordinary situation.

Dahal also noted that some people are still uncertain about whether the election will take place as scheduled. Reiterating his stance, he stressed that the election should be held on the announced date in a single phase. He further claimed that the NCP would perform well if the election is conducted fairly and without rigging.
