KMC begins construction of organized cycle lanes and footpaths

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started expanding organized cycle lanes and footpaths on the road stretch from Maiti Ghar Mandala to Thapathali. Previously, cycle lanes marked only with green lines on the road were considered risky and impractical. The new project aims to provide safer and more structured lanes for cyclists along with wider pedestrian pathways.

The construction covers a 2.5-kilometer stretch from Maiti Ghar to Thapathali Bridge. The city officials have stated that the initiative will eventually be extended to other parts of Kathmandu to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.

The project reflects the metropolitan city’s efforts to promote non-motorized transport and provide safer commuting options for residents.
