KATHMANDU: Candidates from CPN-UML have claimed they are contesting the upcoming elections with a clear agenda to win the people’s mandate and uphold democracy. The statement came during a Wednesday interaction program with candidates from the Kathmandu Valley.
Speaking at the event, UML leader and Kathmandu-5 House of Representatives candidate Ishwar Pokharel said the party will soon release its manifesto focused on national interest, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.
The manifesto will outline both the party’s past achievements and its future plans, he added. Pokharel said social harmony and national unity form the foundation of the party’s approach. He also highlighted the need to amend certain aspects of the current system through constitutional revisions.
Pokharel expressed confidence that UML would deliver strong election results and said the party would demonstrate its credibility directly to the public. He also alleged that UML has faced various internal and external conspiracies aimed at weakening the party, stressing the need to remain strong internally.
Meanwhile, UML secretary and Bhaktapur-2 candidate Mahesh Basnet accused the current government of supporting RSP and targeting democratic forces. He urged that the elections be conducted fairly and alleged attempts to manipulate vote results by discussing a two-phase voting system. Basnet also called on the judiciary to swiftly resolve matters related to parliamentary reinstatement.
Similarly, UML secretary and Kathmandu-4 candidate Dr. Rajan Bhattarai described parliamentary reinstatement as a means to restore democracy and the constitution. He urged voters to cast their ballots thoughtfully and without provocation, underlining that the responsibility to safeguard democracy ultimately rests with the citizens.
The interaction program highlighted UML’s focus on national unity, democratic principles, and the party’s commitment to transparent electoral engagement.
