RSP’s second General Secretary post likely for Balen camp, not Kulman

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to add four new office bearers following its central committee meeting held on Sunday.

The newly added positions include one vice-chair, one general secretary, one joint general secretary, and one joint spokesperson.

According to party sources, RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane is preparing to assign the general secretary post to a leader aligned with Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah. Earlier, an agreement had already been reached to bring Kulman Ghising, who recently merged his Ujyalo Nepal Party into the RSP, into the vice-chair position.

A member of the party secretariat said the plan is to allocate the general secretary position to the Balen camp, while the joint general secretary and joint spokesperson roles would go to leaders from the Kulman camp.

However, leaders from Ujyalo Nepal have been claiming that the general secretary post falls under their share and should be allocated accordingly. “The general secretary will come from the Balen camp. The joint general secretary and spokesperson will be from Ujyalo Nepal,” the RSP leader said, adding that while Ujyalo Nepal leaders have staked a claim to the general secretary post, preparations are underway to offer them the other two positions instead.

Leaders close to Kulman say that although some of his supporters are pushing for the general secretary position, Kulman himself has agreed to settle for the joint general secretary and joint spokesperson roles. “His close aides may be insisting on the general secretary post, but Kulman himself has accepted the joint posts,” the leader said, stressing the need to also accommodate leaders from the Balen camp.

Sources say senior leaders, including Balen Shah and Kulman Ghising, are currently holding informal discussions in Jhamsikhel to finalize the decision on the general secretary position.
