Nepal-India ties can be elevated through development diplomacy: Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said that Nepal and India can move beyond past limitations and usher in a new era of development diplomacy following his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Taking to social media after a nearly hour-long meeting with Modi during his ongoing visit to India, Lamichhane described the discussion as fruitful and emphasized the potential for strengthening bilateral cooperation.

He said Nepal and India could build a partnership based on trust and progress through shared civilizational ties, enhanced digital connectivity, and easier cross-border mobility.

Lamichhane also expressed RSP’s commitment to translating these opportunities into tangible outcomes for the shared prosperity of citizens in both countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi described his meeting with Lamichhane as pleasant and reaffirmed Nepal’s importance as a key partner under India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy.

In a social media post, Modi said India was eager to work closely with Nepal’s new government and further elevate the special and multifaceted relationship between the two neighboring countries.

He also welcomed Lamichhane’s vision of building a shared and prosperous future, stating that he fully agreed with the objective.

Lamichhane is currently leading an RSP delegation on a visit to India. During the trip, the delegation has been holding meetings with senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and discussing ways to strengthen ties between the two parties.

Prior to meeting Modi, Lamichhane on Tuesday held separate meetings with BJP leaders, including Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Lamichhane is accompanied by his wife Nikita Poudel Lamichhane, as well as RSP lawmakers Bipin Acharya and Deepak Bohara.
