Nepal reach Chennai for warm-up matches ahead of World Cup



KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team has arrived in Chennai after playing two practice matches in Mumbai as part of its preparations for the upcoming Cricket World Cup.

Ahead of the tournament, Nepal will play two official warm-up matches in Chennai. In the first match, Nepal will face the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday.

According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the match will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium starting at 5:15 pm. Nepal and the UAE are familiar rivals, having faced each other frequently in international cricket.

Nepal will play its second warm-up match against Canada on Thursday. Both warm-up matches will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Nepal will begin its World Cup campaign on February 8 with a match against England. Nepal have been placed in Group ‘C’ alongside two-time world champions West Indies, former champions England, Scotland and Italy.

Following the opening match, Nepal will face Italy on February 12, West Indies on February 15 and Scotland on February 17. Nepal will be playing England and Italy for the first time in international cricket. All of Nepal’s group-stage matches are scheduled to be held in Mumbai. All tickets for Nepal’s matches have already been sold out.

Nepal are making their third appearance at the Cricket World Cup, having previously featured in the 2014 and 2024 editions.
