WASHINGTON DC: US forces launched another round of strikes against Iran on Tuesday, according to the US Central Command (Centcom).
Centcom said the attacks were carried out in response to what it described as “recent attempted attacks” by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Red Crescent reported that four people, including a young child, were killed and more than 50 others injured in the US strikes. According to the organization, shrapnel from a US missile strike struck a residential building in Sirik, southern Iran, where a wedding celebration was underway.
Iran subsequently launched attacks targeting US military facilities in Iraq and Jordan, according to Iranian state media and the Jordanian Armed Forces. Reports also emerged of attacks in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The IRGC warned that the United States would “regret” its attacks. By early Wednesday, Iran had fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at a US Marine base in Aqaba, Jordan, in retaliation for the strike on Sirik, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
The Jordanian Armed Forces said its air defenses intercepted 13 ballistic missiles. Of those, 10 were destroyed, while three landed in remote areas. Jordanian authorities reported no deaths or injuries from the Iranian attack.
The Jordanian authorities also said the country’s National Security Centre had issued a warning to residents in the Aqaba and Mafraq governorates about the possibility of falling debris. The warning was later lifted.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti army said its air defense systems were responding to Iranian missile attacks early Wednesday.
