Govt begins distributing land ownership certificates in Bardiya

BARDIYA: The government has started distributing land ownership certificates from Bardiya district, granting legal ownership of land to landless Dalit and landless squatter families.

In the first phase, 29 families from Ward No. 4 of Badaiyatal Rural Municipality were provided with official land ownership certificates on Wednesday.

With this, long-time landless residents who had been living without legal ownership documents have now become formal landowners.

According to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Federal Affairs, the distribution of land certificates will be further expanded as part of the government’s long-term plan to resolve the issues of landless Dalits, landless squatters, and unorganized settlements.

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Federal Affairs Pratibha Rawal said the government has placed high priority on resolving land-related issues faced by landless and marginalized communities.

She added that the initiative, which began in Bardiya, will be gradually expanded across the country to ensure legal land ownership for genuine landless citizens.
