Demolition of concrete houses begins along Dhobikhola corridor

KATHMANDU: Authorities have begun demolishing concrete houses built on encroached land in Devinagar along the Dhobikhola corridor in Kathmandu Metropolitan City–10.

Chief of the Metropolitan Police Force, Bishnu Joshi, said the operation to remove structures in the area started on Saturday as part of the broader campaign to clear settlements along the Bagmati River and its tributaries.

“We have begun removing houses and temporary structures in Devinagar under the ongoing drive targeting encroachments along riverbanks,” he said.

The government had carried out similar demolition operations on Friday in riverbank areas of Balkhu and Kalimati, targeting settlements considered to be at high risk.

According to authorities, more than 2,000 houses and structures built on encroached government, public and private land have already been removed across the Kathmandu Valley.

During the eviction process, affected families have been sent to holding centres, while records of landless households are being collected at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor.
