Govt expands demolition drive to Balaju, Machhapokhari

KATHMANDU: The government has expanded its ongoing campaign to remove structures built along riverbanks and on encroached public land, with demolition works beginning in Balaju and Machhapokhari areas on Saturday.

The operation, being carried out in coordination with the local administration, security forces and relevant authorities, targets houses, shops and other temporary structures constructed on riverbanks and public land.

Authorities said the drive is part of a broader initiative to reclaim encroached land and reduce risks associated with settlements in vulnerable areas.

The campaign follows similar demolition actions carried out on Friday in areas including Balkhu, Banshighat and Gongabu, where bulldozers were used to clear structures deemed illegal.

Officials have indicated that the drive will continue in other locations in the coming days.
