KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stated that the public mandate given to his party is not merely to govern Singha Durbar, but to transform it.
Addressing the first meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Lamichhane emphasized that unlike previous governments, his administration will not seek revenge through law amendments or ordinances.
“I assure you, no one will face retaliation under our government. Raising questions against the government will no longer result in anyone’s microphone being cut,” he said. “This government will not indulge in foreign manipulations. Civil servants now understand the pace and priorities of the government. No one has the liberty to act arbitrarily.”
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to independent policymaking, free from external pressures, and declared an end to mafias and middlemen exploiting the system.
“Middlemen and mafia activities will no longer exist. Actions against them have already begun,” he said. “This government will take strict action against intermediaries and labor mafias. We will not compromise on this matter.”
Lamichhane further highlighted the importance of strengthening the opposition’s role in parliament. He pledged that his party would ensure the opposition’s voice is never weakened, noting that a weak opposition undermines democracy.
“We will not allow the opposition’s voice to be weakened in parliament. We know that if the opposition is silenced, democracy itself is weakened,” he said.
He stressed that parliament should serve as a platform for debate and deliberation rather than revenge. “Parliament will be a forum for discussion, not retaliation. We will end political revenge that has plagued the past,” Lamichhane added.
His remarks have been interpreted as a commitment to uphold parliamentary dignity and foster dialogue-based legislative practice.
