One hundred and fifteen guns seized in Myagdi

BENI: A large number of illegal weapons have been seized in Myagdi. The District Police Office has confiscated 115 illegal loaded guns within a month under the ‘Operation Bravo Sera’ campaign launched on December 1, 2025 to collect illegal firearms.

The illegal weapons search campaign, conducted with a focus on ensuring security for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 and curbing poaching in forests, has succeeded in seizing the highest number of loaded guns so far, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Thapa of the District Police Office.

According to him, the highest number of guns, 48, were seized from Raghuganga Rural Municipality. Similarly, 20 guns were confiscated from Malika Rural Municipality, 16 from Annapurna Rural Municipality, 14 from Mangala Rural Municipality, six from Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, and 11 from Beni Municipality.

Police said the firearms were seized amid a rise in poaching activities in the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, the Annapurna Conservation Area, and various community forests in Myagdi, as well as due to the increased risk of misuse of guns during disputes and quarrels in villages.

Based on patrols conducted by the District Police Office and its subordinate units, along with information received from local residents, illegal guns were recovered from places where they had been hidden, including barns, forests, riverbanks, and uninhabited houses, said Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina, information officer of the District Police Office.

Most of the seized loaded guns were locally made and found to be in working condition, he added. There is a legal provision for up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 50,000 for using a gun without a licence.
