WEST NAWALPARASI: A total of 170 bodies have so far been recovered from the Narayani River area in West Nawalparasi following the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa, according to the District Administration Office.
Of the recovered bodies, 68 have been buried, four have been identified and 98 remain at hospitals.
Chief District Officer Dipak Raj Nepal said DNA samples were collected at Prithvi Chandra Hospital in the district headquarters before 68 bodies were safely buried.
The bodies were initially managed at Alkatara Danda in Mulpani Community Forest in Sunwal. After space became limited in Sunwal, authorities began managing the bodies at an area around the high-tension line in Chisapani Community Forest in Bardaghat Municipality-2.
According to CDO Nepal, 30 bodies have so far been buried at Chisapani. The recovered bodies have been sent to hospitals in Parasi, Butwal and Bhairahawa.
The four identified victims have been named as 28-year-old Somi Kumal of Palungtar Municipality-7, Gorkha; 35-year-old Prakash Gyami Magar of Gajuri Rural Municipality-6, Dhading; 38-year-old Sankhabuddha Tamang of Rosi Rural Municipality-9, Kavre, who had been operating a hotel and grocery shop in Betravati Bazaar of Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot; and 28-year-old Sabin Rana of Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-2, Makwanpur.
Four more bodies recovered from the Khadda Gandak River in Kushinagar district of India were handed over by Indian authorities at the Maheshpur border point and taken to a hospital. With these recoveries, the number of bodies found in India has reached nine.
