KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa has reached 987, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
As of Tuesday morning, the highest number of bodies had been recovered in Chitwan, where 321 bodies were found. Similarly, 216 bodies were recovered in Nawalparasi East, 170 in Nawalparasi West, 95 in Nuwakot, 65 in Gorkha, 55 in Dhading, 38 in Tanahun, and 27 in Rasuwa.
Of the 3,916 people reported missing following the disaster, 25 are from the Nepal Police, 45 from the Nepali Army, 13 from the Armed Police Force, 15 from the Customs Office, and three from the Immigration Office.
The number of injured people stands at 279. NDRRMA said 168 injured people have been discharged from various hospitals following treatment, while 11,814 people have so far been rescued.
The authority also said that 21,011 security personnel have been deployed for search and rescue operations.
