CNP suspends jeep safari from today

CHITWAB: Chitwan National Park (CNP) has suspended its commercial jeep safari service from today due to monsoon-related risks.

The CNP said the decision was taken because heavy rainfall during the rainy season often causes flooding, fallen trees and poor road conditions, making safari operations unsafe and inconvenient for visitors.

Information Officer Abinash Thapa Magar said the suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

“We have halted safari operations because the monsoon is the breeding season for many wild animals and birds. Unpaved forest roads deteriorate during this period, streams overflow and fallen trees frequently block access routes,” he said.

The CNP follows the same practice every year during the monsoon and typically resumes safari operations around Dashain, depending on weather and road conditions.

Magar clarified that while jeep safaris inside the national park have been suspended, safari services operated in surrounding community forests will continue.

Commercial jeep safaris normally operate from Sauraha, Kasara, Meghauli, Madi and Nawalparasi, offering visitors opportunities to explore the park and observe its wildlife.
