Security beefed up in Madhesh ahead of HoR elections

JANAKPURDHAM: Security arrangements have been intensified across Madhesh Province in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The Madhesh Province Police Office, Janakpurdham, stated that these measures are being implemented in a planned manner to prevent violations of the election code of conduct and ensure a fair and peaceful voting environment.

Heightened security has been deployed along the Nepal-India border areas connected to the province. Checkpoints have been established, and special surveillance operations are underway. The office confirmed that monitoring and inspections have been conducted across all eight districts to ensure the security of polling stations.

Out of 2,160 polling stations in Madhesh Province, 1,246 have been classified as highly sensitive, particularly those near the Indian border. Kamal Thapa, spokesperson of the Madhesh Province Police Office, noted that all districts have been categorized based on assessments by security committees and that planned measures are in place for monitoring and protection.

In terms of constituency-level sensitivity: Out of 32 constituencies, 1,246 polling stations are highly sensitive, 755 are sensitive, and 159 are considered normal.

In Saptari, 209 out of 296 polling stations are highly sensitive. Likewise, Siraha has 154 highly sensitive polling stations, Dhanusha 194, Mahottari 163, Sarlahi 158, Rautahat 152, and Bara 145.

Madhesh Province has a total of 4,471 polling stations. The elections will feature 1,288 candidates from various political parties and independents, with a voter base of 3,517,123 — including 1,905,819 men and 1,611,304 women.

The Madhesh Province Police Office emphasized that all security arrangements are aimed at ensuring a smooth, safe, and orderly electoral process across the region.
