Trump claims Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed in US-Israeli strikes



WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint US-Israeli airstrikes targeting Tehran.

Trump described the reported killing as “justice” for the people of Iran, Americans and others around the world, and said the bombing campaign would continue. He added that the moment represented “the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their country.”

His remarks came after the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks across Iran. Earlier, Israel announced that it had killed seven senior officials in the strikes, though it did not mention the supreme leader among them.

In response, Iran carried out retaliatory attacks across the Middle East. Suspected Iranian strikes were reported in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Kuwait — locations that host US military bases or are considered close US allies.

According to the Iranian Red Crescent, more than 200 people have been killed across the country. Iranian media also reported that at least 85 people died when an airstrike hit a girls’ school.
