HoR election: 48 new candidates in Kanchanpur



KANHANPUR: Forty-eight new candidates, including independents, have entered the race in Kanchanpur for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.

A total of 55 people have filed their candidacies across the district’s three constituencies, according to the Election Office.

In Constituency No. 1, which has 101,724 registered voters, 19 candidates are contesting, including youth leader Gopi Prasad Upadhyay from the Nepali Congress, Tara Lama Tamang from the CPN-UML, Bina Magar from the Nepali Communist Party, and Janak Singh Dhami from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Except for Tamang (UML), Magar (NCP), and Dilli Bahadur Shahi (RSP), all other candidates are new to this constituency.

In Constituency No. 2, with 109,574 voters, 19 candidates, including independents, are in the fray. The contest includes Narayan Prakash Saud (Nepali Congress), Bachan Bahadur Singh (UML), Madhav Pant (NCP), and Deepak Bohara (Rastriya Janamorcha). Except for Saud (Congress) and Ram Bahadur Karki (Rashtriya Janamorcha), the remaining 17 candidates are newcomers in the federal election.

In Constituency No. 3, 17 candidates, including three independents, are contesting for 103,087 voters. Deepak Prakash Bhatta (UML) and Man Bahadur Sunar (NCP) are the only candidates with prior electoral experience.

Bhatta was elected in the 2074 BS election, while Sunar, now representing the NCP, had previously filed as an independent in 2051 BS. All other candidates in this constituency are contesting for the first time.
