Schools in Sunsari closed due to worsening cold weather

SUNSARI: School education in Sunsari has been disrupted as cold weather conditions continue to intensify across the district.

In response to the rising cold, all local levels in Sunsari have announced holidays for both community and institutional schools from December 31 to January 2, 2026. The closures have been implemented as a preventive measure to protect the health of students.

Itahari Sub-metropolitan City stated that the school holidays will be adjusted from the five-month leave provision. According to Ramesh Kumar Shah, head of the Education Branch of the sub-metropolitan city, the decision was taken considering the potential health risks posed by the cold weather, particularly to children.

Similarly, local governments across Sunsari, including Inaruwa, Duhabi, Koshi Rural Municipality, Harinagararamdhuni, and other areas, have decided to close schools by deducting the days from accumulated annual leave. Local authorities have urged parents to keep their children warm at home and take necessary precautions as temperatures continue to drop.
