308 cases of violence against women recorded in three months



KATHMANDU: The Women’s Rehabilitation Center (WRC) has reported a total of 308 incidents of violence against women between Chait and Jestha (April–June 2025), highlighting a continued rise in gender-based violence across the country.

According to a statement issued by WRC, 41 cases were collected from media reports, while 267 were gathered directly from the organization’s working areas. Among these, 21 were cases of murder and three were attempted murders.

Program Manager Sulochana Khanal said that most of the murder victims were young women — 29 percent were between 18 and 25 years old, 24 percent between 26 and 35 years, and 19 percent were under 18.

Data show that perpetrators were most often close family members, with 43 percent of the women killed by their husbands and 24 percent by other relatives. Similarly, 10 percent of victims were murdered by neighbors, 5 percent by close friends, and 14 percent by ex-husbands.

In terms of marital status, 82 percent of the victims were married, 10 percent unmarried, and the status of the remaining 9 percent was not specified.

According to Nepal Police data for fiscal year 2081/82, four women were killed following rape, two due to dowry-related violence, and 38 as a result of domestic violence.
