Floods and landslides block 16 roads across Nepal

KATHMANDU: At least 16 roads and highways across the country have been completely blocked today due to floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall, severely affecting transportation and public movement.

In Kathmandu, the Dharke Road has been rendered impassable, while in Sankhuwasabha, a section of the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola is also blocked. Rasuwa district has seen multiple disruptions, including the Nepal–China Friendship Bridge and parts of the Pasang Lhamu Highway.

Similarly, in Sindhupalchowk, a major landslide has blocked the Araniko Highway. The Pasang Lhamu Road in Nuwakot and the Beni–Darwang Road in Myagdi have also been completely obstructed.

Other road blockages have been reported along the Besisahar–Manang Road in Lamjung, the Ghorahi–Thawang Shahid Marg in Rolpa, and the Jajarkot–Dolpa–Bheri Corridor in Rukum West.

In Kalikot, the Karnali Highway has been shut down, and in Jajarkot, multiple sections have been affected, including the Jajarkot Road, the Mid-Hill Highway, and the Jajarkot–Khalanga–Rimna Road. The Jajarkot–Dolpa–Bheri Corridor in Rukum West has also been affected in more than one segment.

In addition to these complete blockages, partial obstructions and one-way traffic have been reported on several roads. These include the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum, the Pasang Lhamu Highway and Prithvi Highway in Rasuwa, the Kaligandaki Corridor in both Baglung and Nawalparasi (East), and the Prithvi Highway in Tanahun.

According to Nepal Police, efforts are currently underway to clear the landslides and debris from the affected roads using heavy machinery and technical teams.

However, persistent rain in many of the affected areas continues to hinder progress. Travelers are advised to check road conditions before setting out and avoid high-risk routes unless necessary.
