Gaura festival helps preserve indigenous culture: President Paudel

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the Gaura festival plays an important role in preserving Nepal’s indigenous culture and in strengthening geographical, religious, and cultural harmony.

In a message issued today on the occasion of Gaura festival, President Paudel expressed his hope that the celebration will further promote Nepal’s unique cultural identity and inspire all Nepalis to deepen mutual understanding, harmony, sustainable peace, and fraternity.

Extending his best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepalis at home and abroad—particularly those in the western regions where the festival is predominantly observed—President Paudel emphasized the value of traditional festivals in enhancing unity in diversity, social cohesion, and tolerance.

“I believe that such festivals strengthen national unity by connecting families and communities, preserving cultural traditions, and nurturing spiritual belief, happiness, and peace in society,” he stated.

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav also issued a message, calling the Gaura festival an opportunity for social reunion. He noted that the worship of Gauri and Maheshwor during this festival symbolizes religious devotion, cultural heritage, and social unity.

“This festival, celebrated with hopes for good fortune, purity, happiness, and peace, is not only a cultural ritual but also an expression of fraternity, coexistence, and deep love for the motherland,” Vice President Yadav said. “The return of people from abroad to their places of origin to mark this festival is a powerful testament to their loyalty and emotional bond with their homeland.”

He added that Gaura also serves as a reminder of the need to preserve Nepal’s cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations.
