KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has submitted a closed list of 110 candidates under the proportional representation system to the Election Commission for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
The party failed to submit the list on Monday after the Election Commission declined to recognize the digital signature of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba. On Tuesday morning, senior leaders including General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Central Publicity Department Chief Meen Bahadur Bishwakarma reached the commission to submit the list. Party leaders later held consultations with President Deuba in Maharajgunj.
According to Chief Secretary of the party’s central office, Krishna Prasad Paudel, the list excludes individuals who have served as proportional representation lawmakers since 2007.
Among party office-bearers, only Co-General Secretary Bhishma Raj Angdembe has been included, while most of the candidates are new faces.
The list includes former defence minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan and Dr Chandra Mohan Yadav, son of former president Dr Ram Baran Yadav. Several former ministers and lawmakers have also been accommodated.
Among the names included in the proportional list are Bhishma Raj Angdambe, Gopalman Singh Rajbhandari, Balkumar Linkha, Bijay Sambahamfe, Gita Gurung, Gita Kumari Sendang, Sabita Rai, Premika Rana Magar, Nirmala Gurung, Goma Kumari Bhattarai, Sushila Dhakal Acharya, Rukmini Devi Koirala, Rina Upreti, Jamil Akhtar Miya, Goma KC, Dr Pramila Gachchhadar, Manumaya Bishwakarma, Chandreshwar Sharma Khatwe, Nagma Shahid, Chandan Jha, Manhari Shrestha, Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Ramsundar Mahara, Kanchana Kumari Paswan, Ninu Karna, Kabita Yadav, Sujata Devi, Parmila Mahato, Aurmila Kumari Yadav, Mohammad Ansar Khan, Dr Chandra Mohan Yadav, Mahendra Yadav, Ramnaresh Kushwaha, Rajendra Jayaswal, Priyanka Das, Pavitra Sunar, Sahjana Khatun, Shanta Kumari Tamang, Niyati Singh, Gyalje Sherpa, Pemba Chhiring Tamang, Seteman Tamang, Mahendra Thing, Binod Prakash Kayastha, Jagat Bahadur Tamang, Ganeshman Chakradhar, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, Narayan Shrestha, Dr Ganga Lakshmi Awal, Renuka Kaucha, Kamala Rajbhandari, Shakuntala Sharma, Arjun Narsingh KC, Shrivinod Bhattarai, Sita Devi Devkota, Sita Thapaliya (Urmila), Uma Shivakoti, Sharmila Shrestha and Chhiring Dolma Sherpa.
The party said the list reflects an attempt to balance inclusion, renewal and experience ahead of the upcoming election.
