Government decides not to appoint new ambassadors immediately



KATHMANDU: The government has decided not to appoint new ambassadors immediately in the countries where previous envoys have been recalled.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Minister for Information and Communication and government spokesperson Jagadish Kharel said the current government is an interim one formed to oversee the upcoming elections, and therefore, new ambassadorial appointments will not be made for now.

He informed that for the time being, the embassies concerned will be managed by senior officials already stationed there.

Kharel said that ambassadors were recalled from 11 countries based on performance evaluations and their roles in the changing political context.

He also informed that the Cabinet approved Additional Inspector General of Police Rajan Adhikari’s participation in the 93rd Interpol General Assembly to be held in Morocco from Mangsir 8 to 11.

Similarly, the Cabinet decided to authorize specific sectors to access data from the National Identity Management Information System for services such as foreign employment, court case management, foreign study permits, immigration, citizenship, social security, and identification of detainees.

The meeting also approved a proposal to conduct an organizational and management survey of the Samarjung Company Office under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
