Heavy rains cause major road disruptions across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered floods and landslides, completely blocking nine major highways across Nepal, authorities reported on Saturday.

According to the Police Headquarters, the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola in Sankhuwasabha, the Nepal-China connecting bridge in Rasuwa, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, and the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok have been fully obstructed.

Other roads entirely blocked include the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, the Beni-Darbang Road in Myagdi, the Jajarkot Road in Rukum West, the Bheri Corridor in Dolpa, and the Gokuleshwar-Darchula Road in Darchula.

In addition, some highways are operating partially, with one-way traffic only. These include the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum, North Gaya and Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, and the Prithvi Highway.

Similarly, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Nawalparasi East, Prithvi Highway in Tanahun, Rapti Highway in Dang, and Saljhundi-Dhorpatan Road section in Arghakhanchi are functioning under one-way traffic control, the Central News Desk reported.

Authorities have urged travelers to remain cautious and avoid non-essential travel on affected routes until the roads are cleared.
