SC orders Resham Chaudhary’s immediate release

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a letter to Dillibazaar Prison ordering the immediate release of Civil Liberties Party patron Resham Chaudhary.

However, questions have arisen regarding the legitimacy of the document.

City Registrar Achyut Kuikel clarified that the letter sent in the name of the Dillibazaar Prison is not an official communication from the court.

The letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police reads: “The case and writ division of this court has not issued the letter dated 2082.1.17 under Ch. No. 19277 addressed to Dillibazaar Prison. Therefore, it is not considered an official document and has not been implemented. If Resham Lal Chaudhary—son of Lalbir Chaudhary from former Durgauli VDC Ward No. 8, now Janaki Rural Municipality Ward No. 6—has been arrested, we request his immediate release from detention and custody.”

Following this revelation, Mahiman Singh Bista, the Supreme Court branch officer who authored the letter, has been taken into custody.

According to court officials, Bista is believed to have issued the letter on his own initiative.

He was arrested by the Supreme Court Security Unit and handed over to the District Police Complex in Kathmandu for further investigation and necessary action.

Prior to his arrest, the Supreme Court administration had launched an internal inquiry to trace the origin of the document. After confirming that Bista had acted independently, the administration ordered his arrest.
