Talks between teachers and govt remain inconclusive

KATHMANDU: Talks between the Nepal Teachers Federation and the government concluded once again without an agreement. Despite the lack of resolution, both sides have described the discussions as positive.

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Raghuji Pant stated that the dialogue with the Teachers Federation is heading in a constructive direction.

Speaking to the media at the Ministry following Tuesday night’s meeting, he said efforts are underway to reach a final agreement as soon as possible.

He also noted that the teachers’ representatives approached the talks with a cooperative attitude. Tuesday’s meeting, which lasted from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM, included Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

The Federation’s delegation was led by its President, Laxmi Kishor Subedi. Encouraged by Monday’s productive discussions, both sides reconvened for a second round of talks on Tuesday.

The Teachers Federation has been protesting in Kathmandu, putting forward a range of demands.

As a result, teaching and learning in community schools across the country has been disrupted since the beginning of the academic session 2082 BS.
