Durga Prasai issues video apology, claims he was targeted for assassination

KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, who has been absconding following the violence in Tinkune on Friday, issued a video message on Sunday apologizing to the security personnel.

In his video, posted on social media, Prasai claimed that he is not far from the police. However, while he was seen speaking from a temple, he did not disclose his current location.

He explained that he had to break through the police security cordon and flee because there was a conspiracy to kill him that day.

“There was a conspiracy to kill me that day,” he said in his video message, adding, “We did not plan to vandalize public property, but instead intended to surround the airport and Parliament Building.”

Prasai continued in the video: “I broke the security cordon and entered a safe place to protect myself. I want to assure the security personnel that I have no personal animosity towards you. You are part of the state mechanism. I apologize for the injuries caused to you. Durga Prasai is not far from you.”

During the royalist protest led by Prasai in Tinkune, Kathmandu, two people, including a journalist, were killed. The protest also caused extensive property damage due to vandalism, arson, and looting.

Since then, the police have been searching for Prasai, but have not yet been able to arrest him.

The police have arrested more than a hundred individuals, including RPP Senior Vice Chair Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana, who participated in the protest.
