Tinkune incident an attack on democracy: Speaker Ghimire

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has condemned the incident that occurred at Tinkune on Friday, calling it an assault on democracy. He urged political parties to foster an environment conducive to discussion and debate on the issue in Parliament.

In a meeting with the Chief Whips of political parties at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor today, Ghimire emphasized the need to demonstrate that Parliament is active by addressing the incident in the House.

He stressed that it would be inappropriate to disrupt parliamentary proceedings, especially when the House needs to conduct its business, even if it is not in session.

Chief Whip of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, stated that Prime Minister KP Oli will address the House on March 31.

He also mentioned that a phone conversation took place between the Prime Minister and opposition leaders regarding the removal of the parliamentary obstruction.

Bartaula added that the Prime Minister has called for an all-party meeting today.

Meanwhile, the ruling party has requested that the opposition lift their obstruction of the House. However, the opposition parties have reiterated that their position remains unchanged.
