PM Oli acknowledges cultural significance of Sonam Lhosar

Prime Minister KP Oli has highlighted the cultural importance of Sonam Lhosar, particularly the performances featuring selo and damphu drums.

Extending his heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar, the New Year of the Tamang community, PM Oli shared a message on social media, saying, “Today marks Sonam Lhosar, the New Year of the Tamang community. I recall the vibrant multi-colored flags flying atop houses and monasteries.”

The Prime Minister also emphasized the cultural significance of the festival and its traditional performances. He extended his best wishes to jhamman (all) nanaanga (sisters) and jyojyoale (brothers) on this special occasion.

Festivals help strengthen national unity: President

President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed his belief that festivals like Sonam Lhosar play a vital role in strengthening national unity across Nepal.

In his message of best wishes for the Sonam Lhosar festival today, which is celebrated by the Tamang community, the President emphasized that such festivals promote mutual goodwill, tolerance, and a sense of fraternity in Nepal’s diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural society.

“I hope that the Sonam Lhosar festival further reinforces unity among all Nepalis and inspires everyone to work together towards building a prosperous and socially equitable country,” said President Paudel.

Opposition parties reject ordinance, potential tension in Parliament

Opposition parties, including the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center), have decided to reject the ordinance introduced by the government.

A meeting of opposition parties held at Singha Durbar, a day before the start of the winter session of Parliament, concluded with the decision to reject the ordinance.

Maoist Center’s chief whip, Hit Raj Pandey, stated that the opposition believes the government bypassed due process in issuing the ordinance.

Political instability has adversely affected country’s economy: PM

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has acknowledged that while development work was stalled due to political instability, progress has now gained momentum.

In his address at the inauguration of the Nepal Chamber Expo, PM Oli stated that political instability has had a negative impact on the country’s economy, industry, business, trade, production, and exports across all sectors.

He said, “The IT sector is no longer just a topic of discussion but has become an integral and essential part of our business and daily life. Nepal is moving forward and striving to progress even faster.”

Nepal loses to Netherlands in triangular series

Nepal has lost to the Netherlands in the first match of the triangular T20 series.

In the match played today at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal lost to the Netherlands by 20 runs. Chasing a target of 158 runs set by the Netherlands, Nepal could score only 137 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, at the loss of 7 wickets.

Sita Rana Magar contributed the most with 28 runs for Nepal.
