Opposition parties reject ordinance, potential tension in Parliament

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties, including the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center), have decided to reject the ordinance introduced by the government.

A meeting of opposition parties held at Singha Durbar, a day before the start of the winter session of Parliament, concluded with the decision to reject the ordinance.

Maoist Center’s chief whip, Hit Raj Pandey, stated that the opposition believes the government bypassed due process in issuing the ordinance.

The meeting was called by Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and was attended by CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, Rastriya Swatantra Party’s acting chair DP Aryal, and Rastriya Janamorcha Chair Chitra Bahadur KC.
