Various festivals have enriched Nepali society: Speaker

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has expressed that festivals from every Nepali caste and community have played a significant role in enriching Nepali society.

Extending his heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar 2081 BS, the Speaker emphasized that festivals like Lhosar help foster unity and cooperation among the Nepali people.

Sonam Lhosar, a major festival for the Tamang community, is celebrated with great enthusiasm as the start of the New Year.

Speaker Ghimire explained that the word “Lhosar” combines “Lho” (meaning year) and “Sar” (meaning new), symbolizing a message of new energy, prosperity, and positive transformation.

“Sonam Lhosar is an indigenous festival of the Tamang community. It stands as a vibrant cultural example, celebrated with the traditional sounds of the Damphu drum, the singing of Tamang Selo folk songs, the wearing of traditional attire, and the enjoyment of special dishes,” the Speaker said in his message.
