EC sets spending limits for NA candidates



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has fixed the expenditure ceiling for candidates contesting the election of National Assembly (NA) members.

According to the Commission, the total spending limit for each candidate in the National Assembly election has been set at Rs 1 million. Of this, candidates are allowed to spend up to Rs 350,000 under specified campaign-related headings.

As per the breakdown provided by the Commission, candidates may spend up to Rs 1,000 on the purchase of voter rolls, Rs 70,000 on vehicle rental, Rs 10,000 on vehicle fuel, and Rs 14,500 on campaign materials. Likewise, Rs 10,000 can be allocated for transportation, Rs 100,000 for seminars and interaction programs, and Rs 14,500 for publicity through print and electronic media.

Similarly, candidates are permitted to spend Rs 70,000 on office operations, Rs 30,000 on the mobilisation of representatives, and Rs 30,000 under miscellaneous headings.

The National Assembly member election is scheduled to be held on Magh 11. The Commission has directed candidates to open a separate bank account in a licensed bank or financial institution for election expenses. Candidates must ensure that all expenditures are made through this account and designate a responsible person to manage spending on their behalf.
