KATHMANDU: Nurses working in government and private health institutions across Nepal observed a two-hour work stoppage on Wednesday from 10 am to 12 pm.
The protest, organized by the Nepal Nursing Association, aims to pressure authorities to fulfill their demand for minimum wages in private hospitals and teaching institutions as mandated by the government.
Earlier, the association had announced a series of actions starting from Kartik 4, including wearing black armbands while on duty until October 28, followed by a daily two-hour service halt from October 29 to November 4. A new program will be announced after the Health Ministry task force submits its report on November 4.
The 15-point demands raised by nurses include fair wages, improved work conditions, and other service-related benefits. While the government has formed a task force to address these demands, private hospital operators maintain they are unable to meet the proposed wage requirements.
