Fulpati: Seventh day of Dashain observed today
The seventh day of the Bada Dashain festival, known as Fulpati, was observed across the country today, with people bringing auspicious items into their homes to mark the occasion. Fulpati—an arrangement of sacred flowers, leaves, and fruits—is ceremoniously placed in the Dashain Ghar (worship room) on this day. In Kathmandu, the Fulpati is brought to Hanumandhoka Durbar from Jamal in a traditional procession conducted according to Vedic rituals. The procession includes the Gurujyuko platoon of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, high-ranking officials from the Armed Police Force and civil service, along with the Asha Gurja team, traditional ‘panchebaja’ music, band performances, and elaborately decorated ‘kalsyoulis’ (auspicious vessels).
Government committed to timely election: PM Karki
Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has affirmed that the government is committed to holding the upcoming House of Representatives election on schedule. In her Dashain greetings message issued today, Prime Minister Karki stated that the current government was established on the foundation of the Gen-Z Protest, and it remains dedicated to fulfilling its mandate, including conducting the election on time. She also reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting good governance across all levels.
President Paudel calls for unity and timely elections
President Ram Chandra Paudel has called on all Nepalis to exercise restraint and extend their full support to ensure the continuation of the people’s representative parliament and government by holding scheduled elections on time. In his message of best wishes issued today on the occasion of Dashain 2025, the President also highlighted the importance of effectively managing the extraordinary situations facing the country, including human casualties and damage to public, private, and institutional property. Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized the need to resolve the country’s current political challenges within the framework of the Constitution, calling it the supreme law of the land. Extending his best wishes on the occasion of Dashain 2025, Deuba expressed hope that Goddess Durga Bhawani would bless everyone with self-confidence and determination to overcome the difficult circumstances facing the nation. Reaffirming the significance of the Constitution, he stated that it was drafted by elected representatives and shaped by the decades-long sacrifices, struggles, and aspirations of the Nepali people. As such, he said, it must be the foundation for addressing all political complexities.
RSP instructs outgoing lawmakers to return red passports
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has directed its outgoing Members of Parliament (MPs) to promptly return their red (diplomatic) passports and MP identity cards to the Federal Parliament Secretariat. In a statement issued on Monday morning, RSP spokesperson Manish Jha urged the party’s 21 outgoing MPs to complete the return process without delay. The party has also instructed its leaders and members at all levels not to accept any gifts other than greeting cards during the festive season.
Vice President urges greater collaboration for effective implementation of Constitution
Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has stressed the need for patience, dialogue, and collaboration, along with a stronger commitment to upholding, protecting, and effectively implementing the Constitution. Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has appointed three advisors to her personal secretariat. Ajay Bhadra Khanal, a former editor of The Himalayan Times, has been appointed as the Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister. Similarly, Adarsh Kumar Shrestha has been appointed as the Prime Minister’s Advisor and Chief Personal Secretary. Shrestha holds a Master’s degree in Sociology and has previously served as the personal assistant to former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court. In addition, Govinda Narayan Timilsina has been appointed as the Public Relations Advisor.

Over 6,100 police personnel to be deployed in Kathmandu Valley for festive season
More than 6,100 police personnel will be deployed across the Kathmandu Valley during the upcoming festive season, according to a special security plan prepared for Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath. Kathmandu Valley Police Office Chief and Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dan Bahadur Karki said the personnel will be mobilized across the three districts—Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur—to prevent and respond to crimes that tend to increase during the festivals.
Mustang receives over 108,000 foreign tourists in 2025
A total of 108,686 foreign tourists visited the religious and tourism-rich district of Mustang between January and September 28, 2025, according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). This marks a 5.32% increase compared to the same period last year, when 102,894 foreign tourists were recorded. In 2024, a total of 135,719 foreign tourists visited Mustang throughout the year. To maintain a similar annual growth rate in 2025, an additional 27,033 foreign tourists—a 19.91% increase—would be needed by the end of December.
UML holding Central Committee meeting from Oct 12
The CPN-UML has scheduled its Central Committee meeting from October 12 to 15 in Kathmandu. The decision was taken during a Secretariat meeting held on Sunday in Gundu, Bhaktapur. Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said the meeting will focus on recent political developments and key policy decisions. “The 10th Central Committee meeting will be held in Kathmandu from October 12 to 15 to deliberate on the latest political situation and make necessary decisions,” Gyawali said.
Fire breaks out in houses near Kasthamandap
A fire broke out early this morning near Kasthamandap in Kathmandu, engulfing three houses and a temple in flames. Locals reported that the fire started around 3 a.m. Fire brigades from Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Lalitpur Metropolitan City controlled the blaze. The Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police also assisted in firefighting efforts. According to locals, the fire originated in a cloth warehouse.
Two killed in Arghakhanchi jeep accident
Two people died and 24 others sustained injuries in a jeep accident in Sandhikharka-9, Tari, Arghakhanchi. The jeep, bearing registration number Lu 1 Ja 4723, was traveling from Butwal to Purkotdaha in Gulmi via the Sandhikharka-Dhorpatan road section when the accident occurred this morning. District Police Office, Arghakhanchi, confirmed that two people died on the spot, while 24 others were injured. Four of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.
Deurali Secondary School declared first digital school in Mahottari
Deurali Secondary School, located in Bardibas Municipality-1, has been officially declared the first digital school in Mahottari. Mayor Prahlad Kumar Chhetri hailed the initiative as a significant step toward enhancing students’ access to modern technology. “There’s a common perception in Madhes that community schools here lag behind in providing quality education,” the mayor said. “This move will send a positive message across Madhes.” He also inaugurated the digital boards installed in all classrooms of the school.
Dashain rush: Heavy traffic at Valley exit points
On the seventh day of Bada Dashain, as Fulpati is ceremonially brought into homes, a massive outflow of people from the Kathmandu Valley is underway ahead of Bijaya Dashami. Major departure points—including Gongabu Bus Park, Kalanki, Koteshwor, and Jadibuti—are witnessing heavy crowds as people return to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with family. Due to the increased movement of vehicles leaving the valley, traffic congestion has built up along the Koteshwor–Bhaktapur stretch, with a queue of vehicles extending as far as Radhe Radhe since early morning.
651 prisoners still at large after Nakkhu Prison break
A total of 1,280 inmates escaped from Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur during the nationwide Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, which were marked by vandalism, arson, and attacks on public institutions. Of those who fled, 587 prisoners have voluntarily returned, while some have been relocated to various prisons across the country. However, 651 escaped inmates have yet to return, despite repeated public notices issued by the Nakkhu Prison administration. The Department of Prison Management has set a final deadline of October 6 for all escaped inmates to surrender voluntarily. If they fail to comply within this time frame, legal action will be taken in accordance with the Prison Act, 2079 BS.
Landslides, floods block highways at six locations
Continuous rainfall, floods, and landslides have blocked highways at six different locations across the country, disrupting transportation and cutting off access in several areas. According to Nepal Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire, vehicular movement has come to a complete halt along key sections of highways in Sankhuwasabha, Sindhupalchowk, and Rasuwa districts. The Koshi Highway has been completely obstructed at Bhotekhola Rural Municipality-4 and Makalu Rural Municipality-3 in Sankhuwasabha due to relentless rainfall, he said.
As many as 111,000 people leave Kathmandu Valley in past 24 hours
Over 111,000 people left the Kathmandu Valley in the past 24 hours, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office. Since Ghatasthapana, a total of 467,000 people have left the Valley as of Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, Bijay Bahadur Swar, President of the Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs National Federation, said that traffic congestion on major roads has caused difficulties for travelers trying to reach their destinations.
Koshi corridor blocked for a month due to landslide
The Khandbari–Kimathanka road section under the North-South Koshi Corridor has remained completely blocked for a month following a massive landslide on August last week. The landslide, which occurred in Makalu Rural Municipality-3, washed away nearly 200 meters of the road, bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt. The disruption has not only affected transportation but also severely impacted the daily lives of residents in surrounding villages. Locals report damage to private land, farmland, crops, and vegetation.
Jeep safari resumes in Chitwan National Park after monsoon break
The jeep safari service in Chitwan National Park (CNP) has officially resumed today after a seasonal suspension during the monsoon period. The service had been halted since June 30 due to safety concerns, including the risk of damage to forest roads, flooding from swollen rivulets, falling trees, and other hazards to visitors and wildlife. This season, the same jeeps that were in operation last year have been re-authorized for service. Operators have been instructed to ensure their vehicles are in proper condition before resuming safari operations.
Manaslu climbing season begins on strong note; Nima Chhiring sets new record
The autumn climbing season on Mt. Manaslu (8,163 meters), the world’s eighth-highest peak, has started on a promising note, drawing significant interest from the global mountaineering community. As of September 28, a total of 374 climbers—comprising 95 women and 279 men from 31 expedition teams—have received climbing permits for Manaslu, according to Himal Gautam, Director at the Department of Tourism. Director Gautam noted that while some climbers have already reached the summit, others are currently acclimatizing or preparing for their final ascent.
