Light vehicles operating on Syafrubesi–Timure Highway

RASUWA: The Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road section, which was damaged by floods in the Lhendekhola area on July 8 and July 30, has reopened to light vehicles from today. The road, part of an international highway, has been restored up to Timure.

Khadgalal Shrestha, Project Chief of the Galchhi–Trishuli–Mailung–Rasuwagadhi Road Improvement Project, informed that a 14-kilometer stretch from Syafrubesi to Timure is now operational for small and light vehicles. Work is underway to open the remaining 2 kilometers from Timure to Rasuwagadhi.

He noted that regular operation of heavy vehicles will take more time due to ongoing rain and daily river erosion. Rock-breaking work is being carried out using a breaker attached to an excavator from the Road Department.

Chief Shrestha also stated that the road foundation near the Syayu parking lot between Timure and Ghattekhola has been eroded, and it may take at least a week to complete the necessary repairs.

Technicians reported that the Chinese government is working to upgrade the Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi section before constructing the new Miteri Bridge.

Rasuwa Chief District Officer (CDO) Rajesh Panthi said that China is actively building infrastructure in the Lhendekhola area for the Miteri Bridge reconstruction. However, the hume pipe placed in Lhendekhola to divert water and assist in bridge pillar construction was washed away by heavy rains last night.

Despite this, the Border Security Force has reported that Chinese technicians are continuing work by diverting water using an alternative method. CDO Panthi expressed hope that direct transport between Rasuwa and Kerung will resume before Dashain.

CDO Panthi, who resumed his post in Rasuwa on Wednesday, inspected the road on Thursday and directed immediate repair and reconstruction on the Nepal side.

Meanwhile, District Police Chief Hem Bahadur Shahi confirmed that adequate security personnel have been deployed to mitigate potential risks during the reconstruction process.
