NEPALGUNJ: An outbreak of ‘Lumpy Skin Disease’ has been reported in animals across six local levels of Banke district. According to Bhoj Bahadur Rawal, Planning and Information Officer at the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center, treatment has already begun in the affected areas.

The infection has been confirmed in Rapti Sonari, Janaki Rural Municipality, Kohalpur Municipality, Narainapur Rural Municipality, Khajura, Baijnath, and Duduwa. So far, Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City has not reported any cases.

Rawal stated that the infection has been spreading for about a month and is primarily affecting cows and bulls. While the number of confirmed cases is increasing daily, exact figures are still being collected from local levels.

In Janaki Rural Municipality, Dil Bahadur Khadka, head of the animal services branch, said that medicines were distributed to farmers at subsidized rates. Due to shortages in Nepal, some medicines were sourced from Rupaidiha, India.

Similarly, Jaya Bahadur Karki, head of the animal services department of Rapti Sonari, informed that a request has been sent to the expert center for vaccines, after infections were detected in wards 1, 2, and 6.

Local authorities have assured that they are taking necessary measures to contain the spread and provide timely treatment to the affected animals.
