140 households in Bhaktapur at risk as Manohara flood enters settlement

BHAKTAPUR: A total of 140 households are at risk after the Manohara River began eroding the riverside area (Besi) of Changunarayan Municipality-1 in Bhaktapur.

Ward Chairman Sijan Karki said that efforts were made to divert the river’s flow after continuous rainfall caused the Manohara to swell and veer toward the settlement, putting residents in danger.

A temporary diversion has been attempted in coordination with locals from Changunarayan-1 Besi and Mulpani in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-6.

Karki noted that permanent solutions would require coordinated efforts among all three concerned municipalities.

Changunarayan Mayor Jeevan Khatri added that the municipality is working on budget management to permanently address the issue through the construction of the Manohara Corridor. Meanwhile, floodwaters have continued to erode land near Duwakot in Changunarayan-1.
