Speaker calls on RSP, RPP to end House obstruction

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has held discussions with chief whips of various parties in an effort to end the obstruction in the House of Representatives.

He met with Nepali Congress Whip Sushila Thing, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, Maoist Centre Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi to find a way forward.

The RSP and RPP have been obstructing parliamentary proceedings, demanding an investigation into alleged misconduct related to visit visas at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Immigration Office.

Calling for consensus and cooperation, Speaker Ghimire urged the RSP and RPP to actively participate in the legislative process. “It is not appropriate for major parties to be excluded from discussions on important bills,” he said.

“Create an environment where all parties can engage in debates on federalism-related bills such as civil service and education.”
