Security tightened in Kathmandu ahead of UML and Monarchist protests

KATHMANDU: Security has been significantly tightened in the Bhadrakali, Bhirkutimandap, and Ratnapark areas of Kathmandu in anticipation of planned demonstrations by the CPN-UML and royalist groups, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

A heavy deployment of security personnel has been made in these areas, and surveillance will also be conducted using drones, officials confirmed.

The CPN-UML has scheduled a public event at Bhrikutimandap at 11 am, while royalist groups, including RPP, plan to hold their protest rally at Ratnapark later in the day.

Authorities have allocated the time slot after 2 pm for the royalist demonstration, signaling efforts to manage potential clashes and ensure public order.
