KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has declared that the greatest threats to the republic are red tape, irregularity, and mismanagement.
In his message of congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Republic Day 2021, the President emphasized that political achievements alone are not sufficient to connect the essence of the republic with the daily lives of citizens. He stressed the need to transform the character of governance.
“The character of our governance must change,” President Paudel stated. “We should not delay in making our politics, governance style, political parties, and representative institutions fully democratic, impartial, competitive, just, and effective to preserve the essence and excellence of the republic.”
He underscored the importance of restoring public trust by ensuring that governance reflects the aspirations of the people. “We must act in ways that uphold the hopes of citizens who dream of a truly democratic republic,” he said.
“As long as the lamp of hope fails to illuminate the life of every citizen, we cannot claim to have achieved the goals of the federal democratic republic—goals for which we have sacrificed our blood and toil,” the President noted.
Highlighting the urgent need for economic development, he added, “Citizens are looking for prosperity through good governance, employment, opportunities, equitable resource distribution, and social justice. Without economic development, none of these aspirations can be fulfilled. This must be taken seriously by all.”
