Lawmakers draw govt’s attention to various contemporary issues



KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have called on the government to address several pressing national issues during Tuesday’s zero hour session.

A majority of lawmakers emphasized the need to resolve the ongoing protest by school teachers, urging the government to respond to their legitimate demands without further delay.

Bhagawati Chaudhary stressed the urgency of finding a resolution to the teachers’ agitation. Similarly, Bhanu Bhakta Joshi criticized the government for its lack of serious attention and urged it to create a conducive environment for the protesting teachers to return to classrooms.

Mina Tamang and Maina Karki echoed the need for timely dialogue to resolve teachers’ issues, while Yogendra Mandal highlighted the urgency of enacting the long-awaited School Education Act.

Raising other concerns, Man Bahadur Gurung called on the government to develop necessary infrastructure in Pokhara, which has been declared the tourist capital of Nepal. Manish Jha demanded that the property details of ministers be made public in the interest of transparency.

Mahesh Kumar Bartaula urged timely construction of the Nijgadh Fast Track, a national pride project, while Ranju Kumari Jha recommended increasing the child nutrition allowance in the upcoming policy, programme, and budget for the next fiscal year.

Mahesh Basnet called for the timely provision of urea fertilizer for tea farmers in Ilam, and Menaka Kumari Pokhrel urged the government to include support programs for orphaned children in next year’s policy and budget.

Additionally, Ram Hari Khatiwada demanded that the government immediately begin the process to appoint a new Governor.
