HPV Vaccination Campaign: Actress Koirala declared goodwill ambassador

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has declared noted actress and social worker Manisha Koirala a goodwill ambassador for National Immunization Programme and HPV Vaccination Campaign.

Organising a programme here Wednesday, the Ministry declared Koirala as the goodwill ambassador.

On the occasion, actress Koirala, who is also a cancer survivor, mentioned that women can be protected from the risk of cervical cancer if preventive preparedness is ensured on time.

She urged one and all to move ahead by joining hands in the campaign. Koirala further said she was feeling proud to be a part of social work of encouraging for vaccination. The government has been launching the campaign for HPV vaccine against cervical cancer from February 4.

Over 1.6 million girls between 10 to 14 years, studying in Grade 6 to 10 as well as those out of school, would be immunized against cervical cancer across the country.

According to the Ministry, the nationwide campaign would be launched from February 4, the World Cancer Day.

As per the Ministry data, in average, six women are reported suffering from cervical cancer every day while four die from it.

Health Minister Pradeep Paudel shared that the government had declared three health facilities as the centres to receive services.

For this, at least 90 per cent girls aged 10 -4 years would be immunized with HPV vaccines, while at least 90 per cent women above 30 years would undergo the cervical cancer test by 2030.
