KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has stated that the best tribute to the martyrs would be to move forward in fulfilling the aspirations for development and prosperity.

In his message on the occasion of Martyrs Day today, the President emphasized that true homage to the martyrs is realized by advancing toward the goals of sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity, all of which are possible through the federal democratic republican governance system achieved through their sacrifices.

The President expressed his belief that Martyrs Day would inspire everyone to sincerely play their part in realizing the dreams of the martyrs, while honoring their sacrifices.

“On the occasion of Martyrs Day, 2081 BS, I extend my heartfelt tribute to all the known and unknown martyrs, including the great martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha, who gave their precious lives for establishing civic freedom, democracy, and the protection of our nationality,” he said.

President Paudel noted that Martyrs Day is a special day to remember the great martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.

Observed every year on the Nepali month of Magh 16, the day commemorates the brave individuals who sacrificed everything during the democratic revolution and people’s movements against the Rana oligarchy, the Panchayat system, and the monarchy to make Nepali people sovereign citizens.

“To sacrifice one’s life for the welfare of the people and the nation is the true meaning of martyrdom. May this day inspire all political parties, the general public, and all concerned to dedicate their hearts, words, and actions to realizing the aspirations of the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence of the nation and the Nepali people,” President Paudel added.
